Cementing & floating equipment

Casing accessories

Centralizers, stop collars, float equipment and cementing plugs that position the casing, protect the cement job and cut drill-out time — in sizes from 3-1/2″ to 30″.

Spring bow & solid rigid

Casing centralizers

Centralizers position the casing uniformly in the wellbore for an even distribution of cement slurry. They reduce friction between casing and wellbore, keep the casing off the borehole wall and leave a continuous annular clearance so cement fully seals the casing to the formation.

All Marshall casing centralizers follow API RP 10-2 recommendations.

Bow spring centralizers

With a slightly larger diameter than the wellbore, bow spring centralizers are effective in vertical and slightly deviated wells, centralizing the casing to improve cementing efficiency.

  • Single-piece, hinged and slip-on types, welded or non-welded
  • Adjustable bow heights
  • Full size range from 4-1/2″ to 20″
  • Starting and restoring force tested to API 10D
Solid rigid aluminium centralizer with spiral vanes
Solid rigid — aluminium

Solid rigid centralizers

Built from cast aluminium or steel. Their diameter is smaller than the wellbore, so they are less effective than bow spring types in vertical wells — but they are rugged and perform well in deviated wellbores.

  • Straight or spiral vanes, with or without rollers
  • Regular or short lengths
  • Standard sizes 4-1/2″ to 20″, custom sizes on request

Straight / spiral vane solid centralizer

For applications that demand a good primary cement job — deviated and horizontal wells, liner overlaps and shoe joints. The spiral vane was developed for better cementing and optimum flow area in highly deviated and horizontal wells.

  • Vortex flowReduced flow area between spiral blades creates a vortex, increasing fluid velocity with direction.
  • Cast steel bodyHigh-tensile, solid construction for shock and impact resistance.
  • 360° overlapping vanesMaximum wall contact and fluid swirl.
  • Powder coatedExcellent corrosion and rust resistance.
  • 30° bevelled vane endsBetter lead into restrictions, reduced drag and minimal running forces.
  • Wide vanesDistribute casing load into the wellbore without gouging.
  • Sizes4-1/2″ to 20″ standard; special sizes and combinations on request.
  • Set screws optionalAvailable with set screws to eliminate stop collars.
Hinged bolted stop collar
Stop collars

Hinged bolted stop collars

Locks onto the casing without being slipped over the end, for quick and easy installation — with a holding force higher than the centralizer starting force.

A nut-and-bolt assembly draws the collar into a friction grip around the full perimeter of the casing.

  • Locks on without sliding from the pipe end
  • Locking mechanism positioned 180° from the hinge
  • Efficient, user-friendly cross-bolt design
  • Economical
  • Suitable for sub-critical annular tolerance
Floating equipment

Float shoes & float collars

Float shoes and collars guide the casing into the hole and safeguard the quality of the cement job.

The float shoe contains a back-pressure valve that stops wellbore fluids entering the casing as it is lowered, and prevents cement flowing back after placement — while still allowing circulation down through the casing.

The float collar has a back-pressure valve serving the same function and is run several joints above the shoe. It provides a seat for the cementing plugs, helping the top plug shut off flow and preventing over-displacement. The space between shoe and collar traps fluid contaminated by the plugs' wiping action, keeping it away from the shoe where a strong cement bond matters most.

Single valve float shoe & collar

The most economical and widely used type, delivering maximum circulation rate in vertical, horizontal and deviated wells. The plunger-type single valve prevents cement back-flow, provides casing buoyancy during run-in and acts as an internal BOP while running and cementing the casing. All parts are PDC drillable and CNC machined.

Cementing plugs

Top and bottom plugs remove mud during cementing and keep the slurry clean. Bottom plugs are red and top plugs black for easy identification on site.

Bottom plug

Hollow body, run ahead of the cement slurry to minimise contamination by fluids inside the casing. A rubber diaphragm opens once the plug lands and latches in the float collar.

Top plug

Solid body that gives a positive pressure indication on landing. It displaces the cement and latches into the bottom plug with an anti-rotation feature that eliminates spin during drill-out.

  • Ebonite inserts moulded in elastomer fracture more easily than rubber-and-aluminium designs — significantly reducing drill-out time
  • No metal parts — fully PDC drillable
  • Sizes 4-1/2″ to 20″ in NR, SBR, NBR and HNBR grades
